Clogged or blocked drain traps are problems and require simple solutions for its repair. For cleaning of the crowded drain trap, simple steps are required. Specific actions and procedures help in cleaning of drain traps efficiently.
What is a drain trap?
A drain trap is the curved pipe present below the sink may be at your home or office. The pipe has a J shaped structure which makes them susceptible to clogs. The shape of drainpipe makes them suitable for forming a clog and leading to drainage issues with deposition of debris, grease, hairs, and even soap. Hence, it is essential to keep the drain clean as it allows smooth flow of stream evenly. Slightly blocked drain leads to the slow discharge of water and damages the piping system.
Before starting cleaning of the drain trap, ensure to remove things present below the sink. Make the sink area clear to work efficiently.
Make a place for a bucket
For draining the water from a clogged pipe, you need to disassemble the pipes from the sink head. In a bucket, you can collect water directly.
Detach the entire assembly
It is essential for pipe cleaning to remove the two nuts that connect the trap with the sink’s tailpipe and near-wall fitting. If these nuts are difficult to move and separate, try to move them and replace them with new.
Clean and clear trap
After detaching entire plumbing, it’s time to clean the drain trap and remove the debris clogged inside the pipe. For cleaning, you can use either a large bottle brush or a straight wire hanger. Remove all the elements deposited inside the pipe and clean pipe eternally. Even a small piece left inside the pipe may damage the entire flow and leak the whole system. After washing, water will flow smoothly.
Add drain snake
After cleaning and clearing the pipe’s path, it is essential to insert a small piece of retractable drain snake directly into the pipe. Move the drain snake by rotating it in a clockwise manner.
Reconnect the pipework
After performing all the steps mentioned above, it is mandatory to reassemble the pipes. While doing reassembly, ensure to fix the washer carefully, because its twisting can create an issue. Try to avoid over-tightening of connections instead keep the nuts loose only at the hand-tight level. After this, if you observe any leakage, try to tighten nuts slightly until attainment of leakage-free operation.
